Two people injured in a steak knife attack in Ogden camp; Man arrested | Police & fire

OGDEN – An argument among camp workers resulted in two people sustained knife wounds and a 21-year-old man sent to jail.

Kay Karnes was booked on Friday on suspicion of attempted murder, a first degree crime and a serious second degree assault that resulted in serious injuries.

Brian Eynon said Monday Karnes and a staff member had started arguing over an obvious domestic issue. The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on Friday in a warehouse belonging to Business Depot Ogden on White Drive.

In the affidavit, police said Karnes allegedly left the argument and returned with a steak knife to resume the argument and bring the other man to the ground.

Karnes allegedly stabbed the victim several times, including three times in the neck, and a woman stepped in and grabbed Karnes’ knife hand.

“She was clearly afraid for the man’s life and thought Kay was going to kill him,” the arrest document said.

While she tugged on his hand, Karnes forcibly pulled back and the knife cut her fingers in a sworn affidavit.

Karnes left the warehouse and was arrested in Clearfield around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Police said Karnes admitted getting the knife, but only intended to scare the other man and not try to stab him. He admitted that he withdrew his hand when the woman grabbed him, the arrest document said.

Several other witnesses told officers they saw Karnes attempt to stab the man, according to an affidavit.

Eynon said the male victim was injured but did not know the extent of his injuries.

The man told police that he was grateful that the woman acted because “without her intervention he would have believed he would have been killed”.

The woman suffered deep cuts in three fingers and may need surgery, the report said.

Karnes was held in Weber County Jail without bail. The prosecution of the Weber district filed the indictment with the 2nd district court on Monday morning.
