Utah State Track & Field Stands Proud at Robison Invitational

PROVO, Utah — Utah State track & field continued their outdoor season at the BYU-hosted Robison Invitational. The Aggies came away with five titles and 14 total top-three finishes across the weekend.

Junior Dominic Bentil kicked off USU’s quartet of titles by winning the 200 meters with a time of 20.99. Bentil’s time ranks as the ninth-best all-time in the event at USU and is the first time an Aggie has broken 21 seconds since Joshua Gordon in 2017.

Freshman Mitchell Athay grabbed Utah State’s lone other title in the competition’s track events, placing first overall in the men’s 5,000 meters with a time of 15:46.07. Sophomore Brandon Ovington was responsible for the final title on the men’s side in the shot put, finishing first with a mark of 16.79 meters (55-1.00).

For the Aggie women, senior Maia Garren completed the sweep of the meet’s shot put events, placing first with a mark of 15.79 meters (51-9.75). Garren also placed third in the hammer with a throw of 57.54 meters (188-9.25), a mark which ranks 10th all-time in the event at USU. Sophomore Abbey Bryant also broke into the top 10 all-time at Utah State in the 100-meter hurdles, registering a time of 13.82 to place second in the event. Bryant’s time ranks ninth in program history.

USU’s final title of the weekend came in the women’s 4×400-meter relay as sophomores Olivia Smith, Delphine Dah and Emma Reeves teamed with freshman Alison Richter to place first with a time of 3:44.7.

Utah State is back in action next weekend with a pair of competitions. The Aggies will compete at the Idaho State-hosted Bengal Invitational in Pocatello, Idaho, and the Drake Relays hosted by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
