Vine Grove council votes to lower property tax rate | Local News

Property taxes in Vine Grove now have been changed and residents can expect a lower rate.

Vine Grove City Council met for their regular board meeting on Monday.

Last Monday, the council met for a special board meeting to discuss a couple of different tax matters, including property tax rates.

A first reading for the rate was conducted, which would be lowered from 17.2 cents per $100 assessed property value to 16.3 cents.

During that meeting, Ogden said despite lowering it, more revenue will be received for the city because of rising property values. All council members present at the Monday meeting approved the rate change.

In other meeting business, for the past six months, Vine Grove Mayor Pam Ogden and the council had discussed possibly replacing some if not all of the playground structures at Scheibel Park.

She said besides the swings, the other structures need to come down soon.

At a previous council meeting, Ogden and City Clerk Jessica Irwin presented the idea of using a grant program through GameTime, a playground manufacturer, which would match equipment up to 75% that costs between $25,000 and $75,000. The grant program begins in August and ends at the end of October.

Brian Noel, a representative from DWA Recreation which is near Lexington, came to the meeting to present some possible playground ideas from GameTime for the park and the pricing.

After some discussion, the council decided to table the decision for a year to decide on what playground would be best for the park.
