What will Salt Lake Temple Square be like when the makeover is done?

How will the experience change for the millions who visit the place each year?

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Latter-day Saint Church of Jesus Christ’s Salt Lake Temple will undergo a major renovation on August 4, 2021.

Scaffolding surrounds the Salt Lake Temple. The two visitor centers no longer exist. The space behind the church office building is mostly dirt.

Big changes are clearly on the way in and around Temple Square, one of Utah’s most popular tourist attractions and attracting millions of visitors from near and far every year.

You may be wondering what this place in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City will look like when all the work is done. Where will the statue of Christ end up? Will the sculptures of church founder Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum return? And what about the Christmas lights?

On this week’s show, Ben Metcalf, Temple Visitor Center Director for Latter-day Saint Church of Jesus Christ, speaks about this massive transformation and what guests can expect after the four-year project is completed.
