Bryce Rushton Obituary (1939-2021) – Vernal, UT

Bryce Arthur (Poppa) Rushton went to heaven to join his beautiful bride Delores (MaDee) on December 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Bryce was born on April 2, 1939 to Arthur Lavar and Una Elene Peterson Rushton in Salt Lake City, Utah. Everyone who knew him knew that he was a unique, caring prankster and touched the lives of everyone he met. Bryce was an only child and kept his parents busy. He loved riding horses, especially his horse named Gramps. Bryce married eternal soulmate Delores Carol Andersen Rushton on July 13, 1963 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They only knew each other for a few short weeks, but often said to everyone, “When you know, you just know who to be with”. They shared a hamburger after they got married and would do so every anniversary thereafter. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 6, 1964. He retired as a bus driver from the Uintah School District, where he worked for many years. Bryce was a strict bus driver, but he loved every child who got on his bus as if it were his own, he loved dressing up for Halloween and doing something good for each child.
Poppa had many hobbies including tinkering with cars, his farm, cooking, hanging out with loved ones, reading, watching sports, and being silly. His favorite car was a 49er Mercury. He spent many years in auto shows with his ’30 Model A and his ’57 Ford. He enjoyed his farm time teaching his children and grandchildren the value of hard work. Poppa was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many callings during his lifetime.
He leaves behind his children: Phillip Rushton, Vernal, Utah; Wade (Michelle) Rushton, St. George, Utah: Pamela Atwood, Orem, Utah; Julie (Bradley) Hayden, Grand Junction, Colorado; Blake (Rebecca) Rushton, LaPoint, Utah; Nicolette (Stephen) Oldham, Benson, Utah; Bryce Alonzo (Tiffany) Rushton, Grand Junction, Colorado, 27 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. His wife, parents, father and father and mother-in-law, little daughter Melia Dee, son Paul Bryce Rushton, grandson Greg Rushton and Bryce LaRoy Dingman and great-grandson Enzo Dingman, great-granddaughter Kenzlee Joy Mitchell and many other angels who were touched by him made a wonderful spirit preceded him in death.
Poppa left a wonderful legacy from a family who love him and have learned so much from his wonderful, kind and playful spirit. Until we meet again, enjoy your time in heaven surrounded by all the angels you love.
Services will be held in Lapoint Cemetery on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, with visits to Blackburn Mortuary on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Lapoint LDS Chapel on Wednesdays from 10 a.m.
