OGDEN — Be patient — the city-owned Lorin Farr Pool will be opening, probably sometime in July, though officials have yet to pinpoint a precise date.

The facility typically opens in late May or early June, coinciding with the advent of warm weather and the end of the school year. But the opening this year has been put off as the city scrambles to find the proper paint to resurface the pool, according to Mark Johnson, the city’s chief administrative officer.

“We’re late. We know it. We’re sorry,” he said.

As is, the pool surface is too slippery when wet and the new coating aims to fix that. But because of supply chain issues that have plagued many sectors, the city has had a hard time getting the needed paint.

Johnson wouldn’t commit to a specific date but says the pool ought to be opening sometime in July. He also emphasized that the city isn’t selling the land where the pool sits, that there aren’t alternative plans for the location — it’s to remain a pool.

Other area outdoor pools currently in operation include the Roy Aquatic Center in Roy and the North Shore Aquatic Center in North Ogden.
