Prep roundup: Ben Lomond soccer claims 5-0 win to open 3A playoffs | News, Sports, Jobs

KAMAS — Marco Ortega kept the clean sheet as no. 17 Ben Lomond High boys soccer blanked No. 16 South Summit 5-0 for a road win in the first round of the 3A state playoffs Friday.

Kevin Aguilar netted a brace for Ben Lomond (4-11) Jorge Marquez, Kai Yanagibashi and Eric Gallegos each scored one goal.

Ben Lomond and South Summit split their two Region 13 games this year, both of which went to penalty shootouts. The Scots face top-seed and Region 13 rival Layton Christian at 4 pm on May 4th.

ROY 1, CYPRUS 0 (2OT)

ROY — Spencer Bessinger scored in the second period of extra time on an assist from Brody Nebeker to lead Roy (8-7, 6-5 Region 2) past Cyprus. Xander Allred and Bodan Drca combined for the clean sheet.

SYRACUSE 1, FARMINGTON 0

FARMINGTON — Britton Moline kept a clean sheet and Corbin Bodily scored in the first half on a Ryker Smith assist as Syracuse (10-3, 7-3 Region 1) grabbed a region road win at Farmington (10-4, 6-4) .

BEN LOMOND 9, JUAN DIEGO 8

OGDEN — Tied 5-5 after six, Juan Diego scored three runs in the top of the seventh and Ben Lomond answered with four to claim a walk-off win.

Marley McMillen doubled twice, drove in three runs and scored three runs for Ben Lomond (4-12). Julia Wilcox hit 2 for 3 and Reagan Wilcox got the complete-game win, allowing five earned runs.

BOUNTIFUL 8, SYRACUSE 2

BOUNTIFUL — Syracuse took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, then Bountiful tied the game in the bottom of the third and took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth.

Athena Tongaonevai hit a two-run double for Bountiful (13-4-1). Mylie Burns, Eva Stoddard and Frankie Galeana each had two hits. Stoddard pitched a complete game.

Abby Reed batted 3 for 4 with a double for Syracuse (5-15).

WEST 14, ROY 2

ROY — Roy gave up seven runs in the fourth inning in a home loss to West.

Kylee Weitzel batted 2 for 2 with a solo home run for Roy (6-15, 5-5 Region 2). Olivia Bruch hit a solo homer.

CYPRUS 13, LAYTON 4

LAYTON — Layton trailed 8-0 after three innings, then scored four runs in the fifth in a home loss to Cyprus.

Graccee Godfrey batted 3 for 4 with a double for Layton (8-7). Alissa Reisbeck and Joslyn Purcell each doubled. Jazmine Prathan drove in two.

WOODS CROSS 13, DAVIS 3

KAYSVILLE — Woods Cross scored seven runs in the third inning to take a 12-3 lead in a win at Davis

Libby Clark pitched a five-inning complete game with five strikeouts and batted 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for Woods Cross (7-13). Ali Ebberts went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Kenna Cowley hit a triple and a double.

Sadie Hathaway drove in two with a single for Davis (8-12). Avery Kartchner hit a double.

OGDEN 5, GRANTSVILLE 0

OGDEN — Ogden (13-12) scored all five runs in the first inning to grab an upset victory over Grantsville (19-6) and win the Region 13 tournament championship at Lindquist Field.

Ellio Saenz pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and striking out 13 while walking zero.

Will Minkevitch doubled and drove in two runs for Ogden. So Saenz and Kolton Rich doubled.

SYRACUSE 10, WEAVER 8

PLEASANT VIEW — Syracuse scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 9-8 lead in a region win at Weber.

Carson Miles batted 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for Syracuse (5-11, 5-7 Region 1). Rhode Smith went 2 for 3 with a double and Tatum Martin hit a two-run double. Jake Hopkins earned the win in relief.

Dominic Salerno hit a grand slam for Weber (7-12, 3-9). Jake Lindsay and Bode Larson each had two hits.

NORTHRIDG 7, BONNEVILLE 3

LAYTON — Northridge took a 4-1 lead after two innings in a region win over Bonneville

Jory Durrant batted 2 for 2 with a double and one RBI for Northridge (9-8, 4-5 Region 5). Jed Hadley batted 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Jordan Rhoades pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts.

Kole Story batted 2 for 4 with a double for Bonneville (3-13, 0-9). Jett Hirschi hit an RBI triple and KC Parkhurst hit a double.

VIEWMONT 5, BOUNTIFUL 4 (10)

BOUNTIFUL — Jaxon Marble scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Viewmont a walk-off win over Bountiful.

Luke Jacobs batted 2 for 2 with a triple for Viewmont (11-5, 7-2 Region 5). Rhett Peterson hit a three-run double. Gatlin Solomon earned the win in relief.

Carson Webster batted 3 for 5 with a triple and an RBI for Bountiful (12-7, 6-3). Truman Duryea hit a double.

BOX ELDER 13, WOODS CROSS 8

WOODS CROSS — Box Elder scored seven runs in the fifth inning to hand Woods Cross its first region loss.

Ashton Burton batted 4 for 4 and drove in two for Box Elder (7-12, 2-7 Region 5). Tommy Greer hit a three-run home run. Ryan Griffin batted 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and earned the win in 4 2/3 innings of work.

Dylan Williams batted 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs for Woods Cross (14-5, 8-1 Region 5). Taylor Ayala, Blake Stanger and Cole Smith each hit a double.

MTN CREST 4, BEAR RIVER 2

HYRUM — Bear River collected nine hits on the day but could only plate two runs in a region loss at Mountain Crest.

Jhett Roche batted 2 for 3 and drove in one for Bear River (17-5, 10-2 region 11). Hunter Smoot hit a double.

The Bears are tied for first place in Region 11 with Ridgeline and will face the Riverhawks next week.

MORGAN 8, SOUTH SUMMIT 3

OGDEN — Morgan scored four runs in the fourth inning and four more in the sixth to claim third place in the Region 13 tournament.

Broox McGiven batted 2 for 3 and drove in one for Morgan (11-13). Benjamin Harden hit an RBI triple. Gage Adams earned the win in 6 2/3 innings with 12 strikeouts.
