Utah snow photos: 2021 ends on a wintery note

A heavy storm that hit the Wasatch Front Thursday night and Friday morning left an impressive amount of snow for residents to shovel and play in.

According to the National Weather Service, Spanish Fork had received 8 inches of the fluff by Friday morning while 7 inches had fallen in West Valley City. Salt Lake City saw 5.5 inches of snow, North Salt Lake 3.9 inches, and Park City 7.5.

The service also said parts of northern Utah are likely to bring some lake-effect snow in the New Year. The most likely time for a band to develop is overnight and early in the morning for areas south and southeast of the Great Salt Lake. The day will begin cloudy, the service said, but then it will gradually be sunny with a maximum of close to 22 degrees.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Snowpack Gathering Device reports that Utah’s statewide snowpack currently contains approximately 7.1 inches of water, seven times more than it was on December 9, according to data collected on Friday lunchtime.
